Who could possibly be in favor of giving an illegal alien a drivers license or the ID needed to vote? For what purpose? How can you provide a legal document to someone who is here illegally? This makes no sense and is an attempt by Democrats to get illegal votes. A no brainer.

The governor who supports the legislation is a Republican. The man speaking against the bill passing is the Democrat.

The governor who is supporting the legislation is a Republican. The Majority Leader which is saying that the legislation won’t be allowed to pass is the Democrat.

You guys are in the insurance business, right?

You can’t get car insurance without a driver’s license. If you are here illegally and are driving bare because you can’t get the license to get the insurance and you get in an accident, the accident victim cannot be made whole.

Undocumented immigrants are here and they drive cars. If you get in an accident with an undocumented, wouldn’t you like to have your damages satisfied?

re: “You can’t get car insurance without a driver’s license.”

Yes, you can. Easily. Virtually every non-standard auto writer has a “foreign driver’s license” or “unverifiable driving record” license status, with a corresponding surcharge of 15-30%. In my company’s experience, it’s pretty good business.

re: “If you get in an accident with an undocumented, wouldn’t you like to have your damages satisfied?”

I don’t care whether they’re documented or undocumented, I care whether they’re insured or uninsured. Even so, either way I’m covered. You’re familiar with uninsured motorists coverage, right?

I’m not defending the practice of giving undocumented immigrants a driver’s license, I’m just setting the record straight regarding the erroneous assumption that one must be licensed in order to purchase auto insurance.

Why would illegal aliens spend their limited income to buy auto insurance in the first place? They’d continue to drive bare regardless of being licensed.

We have had a number of our insureds in accidents with Illegals and Legals. Not one has had insurance on any accident reported. By the way, the immigrants were at fault in every accident. They don’t tend to comprehend street signs, failure to yield, run red lights etc.

Tough choice – the anecdotal offering of some guy in a podunk agency or filed industry data in multiple states that’s readily available to the public? I’ll go with the latter.
