After the settlement, Arnold’s lawyers were overheard screaming “Yes, we won one for the Gibber!”

Coach Arnold did a lot to improve the Hawaii program. We as former players appreciate the progress the program made. On the other hand, it was done under the blanket of deception. Is that acceptable? I say no it is not. Rewarding Arnold to move past this chapter in Hawaii basketball is not good for the University. What happens when you cheat or do something dishonest at work? You get fired. The University should not have settled. It makes it seems that it acceptable to deceive the U of H community.

It is fair to say that Gib Arnold was a good coach and had a hell of a run at UH. What he did for the program excited many former players. But, the way it was done is what bothered everyone. You do not reward someone who is a discovered cheater. It is not acceptable in the game of life nor should it be tolerated in the basketball arena. The University should have stuck by their guns. You award $500,000 to someone who open up the door to shame for a community. Even thought we had our good and bad times there was a level of respect that the University embodied. It must pay to cheat.
