I am glad this movement to penalize cell texters is picking up momentum across the country.

So just to be clear, if I’m eating a sloppy, dripping burrito with both hands, smoking a cigarette, and trying to open a soda while driving with my knees, I WON’T get a ticket in Tempe as long as I’m not on my phone. What a stupid law. Distracted driving is distracted driving, and you don’t need a new law in order to put an old law into effect. It actually needs enforcement all the way around.

How many accidents are caused by fat asses spilling food on their laps while operating a motor vehicle? I want those stats compared to texting/talking on mobile devices. I’m not against a ban on using mobile devices while driving, I just don’t agree we need a law that spells it out when there is already one on the books for distracted driving in general. That’s not legislative progress. That’s laziness masked with the appearance that our government is doing the job we hired them to do.

A person should also not be doing any of the things you mention while operating a vehicle. Cell addicts infest our streets. I see it every day and it is the worst form of distraction by far. Alaska is giving a $500 fine for it now. That should give the cell addicts some pause. Put the cell in the glove compartment until you reach your destination and no problem.
