Makes you wonder if the insurer had conducted an inspection or loss control survey, and had found the questionable conditions plus an alleged change in occupancy, if this tragedy might have been avoided? Mike

This is so sad. My guess is if this place was insured at all it was insured incorrectly and any claim will be denied. I hope the agent has a high limit of E&O because fingers are going to be pointing in every direction.

One could hardly believe any agent would agree to insure this place with prior inspection, photos, etc. Material misrepresentation of occupancy and unauthorized building adaptations along with code violations. Where was the Fire Marshall on this one and if it was insured..the inspection within 30 days by the Insurer? Mike is absolutely right as the “ball was dropped” on this one and it could have all been avoided!
