    If you want to work in America, please learn the language. Otherwise it’s dangerous to employ you.

      I don’t know about the dangerous aspect, but it is rude to others who do not speak Spanish etc. in front of others, whether customers or team members. It may be easier, but a non-speaker feels excluded. I know of locations where most of the crew are speakers and the non-speakers are virtually ostracized, which is equally wrong.

      The issue in this case is not being unable to speak English – an employer can decline to hire someone who doesn’t – but rather requiring employees to speak only English while on the clock. There’s no need for that, particularly in the grocery business in San Diego. Albertsons should put a new, and preferably bilingual, management team in that store to show their customer service commitment.

        Bi-lingual?

        You narrow-minded, culturally insensitive person! Here in San Diego, we have people from all over the globe for some reason. Chinese. Iranians. The second largest concentration of Iraqis in the USA. Russians with tech expertise. Philipinos connected to the military. It goes on and on and on.

        What’s the word for 10 languages required? DecaLingual? That’s what should be required. English-only is so racist and insensitive in a country where English is the – what’s the word? – national language.

          Hi Craig,

          I understand it can be somewhat confusing but while English is the most frequently used language, there is no national language within the US. Again we have no designated official language.
