Don, interesting article about the lack of communication in our industry. I believe that what you have really identified is a lack of professionalism within the agent/broker community. When I came into the agency world, the three trusted advisors of the business opwner were, their attorney, their CPA and their insurance agent. Today, we see “Name Your Price” and the Insurance Journal favorite, “Insuretech”. When researching the well-funded insuretech startups, I never find an insurance professional on the management team…If you are not contributing to making the business more professional, you are contributing to the dumbing down of one of the most important components of the development and survival of the American business owner and our economy. The professional agent… Thanks, Tom.
This is probably a generational thing, but I don’t need to deal with a broker when shopping for insurance. There is no art to this equation, give me my terms and my quote, that’s it. The insurance broker business model is a thing of the past, as the industry shifts, people want to have transparency and clarity. The option to complete the insurance process without any outside human intervention is the future.
Brad, I disagree. The need for personal intervention and guidance in insurance, especially with lines so federally sensitive like cannabis, couldn’t be more important. You might be right about personal service being a generational thing, but our clients and community still rely heavily on the human factor. We are a progressive, young, large, college town.
