Woman Accused of Arson Attempts of Her Arizona Business

April 1, 2020

A woman has been arrested in an arson attempt at her Glendale business last month, according to authorities.

Police said 44-year-old Claudia Ramirez was taken into custody on suspicion of arson of an occupied structure.

A Molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of the business on Feb. 12, but police say the glass bottle remained intact and was half full of what investigators believe was gasoline.

Police said a gasoline can was found partially melted outside the business’ door later that same night.

Two days later, employees at the business next door reported an overwhelming smell of gasoline through the shared wall.

Police reportedly found gas poured on merchandise, tables and the floor.

Phoenix TV station ABC15 reported investigators say Ramirez took out a $100,000 insurance policy last October that covered merchandise at her business.

Authorities say Ramirez denied any knowledge of the arson attempts, but says her business was going badly.

It was unclear Wednesday if Ramirez has a lawyer yet.
