Why not? Monday Morning Claims are a frequent problem already, when everyone knows the person hurt themselves on the weekend.

Let’s make cancer a presumed workers compensation claim for anyone working in . . . California, which has put a vague cancer warning on the entrance nearly every building in the State.

So if I frequently gather in groups without masks or practicing social distancing, why not have my employer pick up the bill if I get Covid 19? Or the flu, why not the flu too? (Must have been from work.)

Hell, why not make every injury and illness a workers compensation claim and save all the arguments. We can call it Medicare for All.

Workers Compensation provides statutory benefits. Wouldn’t the labor laws have to be amended by the legislature to provide coverage for non-occupational illnesses?

Good point. But since Republicans are a small minority in the legislature, Gavin Newsom can pretty much act as King now, since the Dems. in the legislature will give him what he wants.

Well I’m a Dem and don’t live in CA but would hope that the WC carriers put their foot down and not cave to public pressure on this one. Forget presumptive-prove it. But your comment on calling it Medicare for All is overboard.

The WC carriers have no authority. This is law.
Democrats run the state, so who is going to fight the law on behalf of “evil” insurance companies? No one.

And you and I both know that the Left has taken every opportunity in this crises to push ideological agendas. So while I was not being serious when I called it Medicare for All, the concept in this instance is valid: the employer pays no matter where the employee contracted the virus.

Side bar: the Left hasn’t recognized yet what a disaster this crises has been for their cause. Building high-density houses downtown near public transportation to reduce carbon emissions? Good luck with that now.

Convincing people to ride public transportation more? Right.

Putting up with tens of thousands of homeless people who might carry disease? Probably not as appealing to Californians as it used to be.

Collectivism vis a vis China? Out the door now.

Nero, I mean Newsom just wants to let the state burn so he can rebuild it in his own image. Socialism here we come.
