May 22, 2020

An earthquake of preliminary magnitude 5.0 shook a remote area of western Nevada Wednesday morning where a stronger temblor occurred last week, The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed.

Nye County sheriff’s Capt. David Boruchowitz said there were no immediate reports of damage and that the quake was barely felt.

The USGS reported the quake occurred at 6:36 a.m. 29 miles west-northwest of Tonopah at a preliminary depth of 7 miles.

Hundreds of aftershocks have been reported in the area since a 6.5 magnitude quake Friday morning caused minor damage to U.S. 95, the main highway between Las Vegas and Reno.
