Re: Agency Management System
If you are confused then you are normal. There is no easy way other than to determine the features most important to you and the price range you want to be in and then get sample programs downloaded for you to experiment with until you decide on one. I started four years ago going through the proces...

Re: Condo Association: BOP vs. Package?
Many companies have condo association BOPs with specially tailored coverage like D&O for the condo Board which may not be readily available for a package.

Re: Agency Management System
As a 2 location 5 person agency that has been using AMS360 since 2003 (we were a Beta agency moving up from AMSPrime)I should know and love them like my own family, but I don't. The program is so incredibly dense with function you can see grass grow faster than see a screen change at times. The cost...

Re: Massachusetts Credit Scoring
Interesting, the statment that clients may not be rejected based on credit score alone. There is one company with whom we write that does reject any client with a score below 625, no exceptions made and that is the only reason for rejection. I would be interested to learn more about the NCOIL rules ...

Re: NY Premium Finance Questions
As I mentioned, we used to have to struggle with subtracting our commission from the client's downpayment then writing a check for the remainder and sending that to the insurance company and often not having the insurance company match up the payment from the finance company with the payment we made...

Re: NY Premium Finance Questions
Work flow and agent commissions have led to the electronic transfer of the financed amount into the agent account. The agent will collect the downpayment indicated, usually 25% particularly if there is an earned premium applicable and then when the finance company transfers their portion the agent w...

Re: How Often to Bid
It seems to me that there is no "should" in the question as to whether the incumbant agent or company "should" get the last look. In each case it "should" depend on how well satisfied the buyer is with his agent and the agent with his company. Neither the agent or the c...

Re: Business P&C Insurance Renewal / Bid Process
Ouch Big Dog! That's from the agency side... If an experienced agent with access to multiple markets who like your particular industry does not shop every year do not be so ready to accuse them of laziness. In the first place shopping is very labor intensive for both the agency and the company and i...

Re: Healthcare Reform
Excellent logic from Kevin and the following commentator. I never really thought about the relation between car tuneups and wellness visits to the doctor. If the former were incorporated into the car insurance that would certainly hike the premium. We also have the requirement in many states for cla...

Re: Personal Lines Retention
It would make me terribly sad if I were to imagine that there is a standard retention period. We do our best to provide swift, friendly service and also to keep an eye on renewal premiums and shop when they rise more than a certain percentage. Our agency is ten years old this year and I would ventur...

Personal vs. Commercial Lines Sales
There is alot more to this than meets the eye. 1. Size of each agency and the quality of their inhouse support'(will your clients be well serviced while you are out selling?) 2. Longevity in business and influence in the marketplace (which will give you a better entre into the new business accounts)...
