Re: Farmers Refuses to Pay Botched Auto Repair
In what state did the claim and repair occur? Most states have Fair Claims Practices to ensure claims are settled fairly. For example, in California referrals to repair facilities result in an insurer's warranty for the repair whether or not it is partnered repair facility of the insurer. If the ag...

Re: Insured/policyholder dies - what to do?
I can only mention what we do: Nothing. Until we hear from someone authorized to make changes or cancel the policy. We only feel it would be wrong to immediately start having policies cancel because we "saw" an obit in the paper. Families are dealing with enough because of the death. I'm n...

Re: Dealing with a possibly unethical customer
You get my vote for "doing the right thing". If they'd forge the cert to try and fool someone else, they'd likely have no problem "stretching the truth" to collect on a claim. I don't think ANY employee would do such a thing without the knowledge or instruction from the owner. Phil

Re: Career Change to Life Insurance from P&C Commercial
Although it likely won't make any difference, I'd be asking to see the numbers of your peers that the company claims are doing so much better.
I'm reminded of our company that so many times says "... you are the only one experienceing this problem..." when I know for a fact otherwise.

Re: Understanding Auto Repair coverage
When I managed my auto shop this type of story would occasionally be passed around many of us simply installed a low cost camera system which helps to prove if the damage could have been done in the lot or not. Many systems of 4-6 cameras are more than sufficient for this and can be purchased for a...

Re: Understanding Auto Repair coverage
Having been in your position when I started, I immediately learned that most auto shops don't understand the "co-insurance" provisions of their policies. I would see that they'd have $20,000 for business property although to replace everything in the shop would take more than $200,000. The...

Re: Nationwide agent vs. Independent
In fact, a friend of mine who was a Nationwide Associate Agent, just lost his contract due to this action. The client was going to leave no matter what. They just found a reason to take his book with no questions asked. They basically walked in and took the book he built after 7 years of hard work....

Re: Crazy for starting an agency now?
No it's not a crazy idea. Agents are retiring every day and it is increasingly harder to start and build a business like this, so your "competition" from other new agents should be getting less and less all the time. You seem to have the qualifications and don't seem to be just dreaming of...

Re: Engineer conducting a burn test on premises
My thoughts are like yours, Rob.
I'd be reading carefully the policy contract to see if this class is excluded for some reason.
I would also guess that finding "special event" carriers that would cover this situation might be difficult. I hope you'll post the outcome.

Re: Facebook
It's one thing for us to share the daily war stories and gossip of being in the business...I think it's quite another to think that outsiders really care about our day to day strugles, successes and daily annoyances. Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary. Thanks for the replies and explanations. I...

I'll not deny I'm in the "senior" segment of agents' age. But....
... can someone post the benefits and advantages of Facebook please?

Re: Farmers Insurance
I'm glad that you have a great District Manager. They are few and far between. We too have a good DM (as was our last one for over a decade before he retired). However, I don't see him lasting much longer because new agents have almost impossible requirements. In addition to the rates in this area ...

Re: Ranting about MGA correspondence
(well, that's not entirely honest. when I receive weekend phone messages from prospects I don't have any dealings with asking about one week auto insurance or business insurance or home insurance to bridge them over until another carrier steps in, I usually don't return those messages...).Cheers.
