Re: single security guard worker's comp

Is there a reason he can't be paid on a W2 and be an employee of the laundromat? He would be automatically covered under existing comp. If you do that he doesn't need separate GL - and it's very likely that the current workers comp carrier would never ask about the security exposure.

Re: Who's Covered?

Well, you've asked a really great question. Actually, you've asked a few good questions here. First, renters insurance covers property that you own under the property section and property damage that is your responsibility under the liability section. You don't own the condo, and the damage was to b...

Re: Mobile Acords - Survey

This sounds like a great idea, but there is no way you will get approval to use copyrighted materials from Acord. This will have to come directly from Acord. ACORD licenses their forms to all sorts of third parties, and not just AMS and applied. I pay $20 a month for access to cloud based ACORD for...

Re: Mobile Acords - Survey

This is a great idea. I think the iPhone might be a little small format, but I've seriously been considering purchasing an iPad for use out of the office. The 25 (liability cert) is top priority and would be used most in my agency. The one I would use out of the office most after that is a 38 (state...

Re: GA's binding responsibility

I completely agree, I expect a binder in 24-48 hours. But, I always call the underwriter to orally confirm binding when I email my request. That way, if there is a problem, I know what it is right away. What someone tells me over the phone may be a low level of assurance, but it gives me peace of mi...

Re: Buying books/ books for sale

It's going to be tough for him to buy an IA unless he wants to go all upfront money out of his pocket or with some third party money. Most agency deals involve either a seller held note, or periodic payments to the seller based on book size over a few years. The seller has a strong interest in that ...

Re: Frustrated Georgia Agent

Separating out the office might be easier that you think. After you have your partner on board to split off your office into a new agency, the carrier reps will likely be fine with it. As long as their current book of business with you is of a decent size and profitable, they won't care who the chec...

Re: High deductible self insured Work Comp

Well, good TPA can mean a lot of different things. I recommend you go in with specific goals. If most of the exposure is in a state where you can have panel physicians, then getting the best medical network as part of the TPA is very important. The medical bill repricing benefits will be huge. Certa...

Re: High deductible self insured Work Comp

With high deductible comp or excess comp with a large SIR, claims administration becomes a big part of the equation. Generally, those that have a large deductible or SIR have a good claims flow every year. The excess workers comp with large SIR is a pure financial risk transfer. It usually does not ...

Re: Social Media

People have been talking a lot about social media as facebook and twitter. But what about blogs? I started a blog that I link to from my agency website on blogger. Unfortunately, I don't post too much on it, and I'm still working on striking a balance of facts / interesting. http://insurancesavvy.bl...

Re: Done with CPCU 510 & 540, which one next???

Depending on your job function, you could do 520 fairly fast if you didn't have a problem with 510. Plus, it's multiple choice now. I did mine in about that time frame in the old format, and I was commercial agency.

I can't recommend Ron Johnson @ AmWins of Philadelphia strongly enough.

I can write in all 50 states with ACE, AIG, Medowbrook, Zenith and several others. He's really gotten a lot done for me.

Re: CPCU - Need specfic study advice

Well- for what it's worth I took and passed the CPCU 510 on Thursday. I also previously have taken & passed the CPCU 520. I am three years out of college and in that time I have completed the AAI and ARM designations. AAI was much easier than ARM (honestly I took AAI 83 without ever ordering or ...
