Re: Would a carrier deny a property claim if.....
My answer as a former underwiter: maybe. If it's a smaller claim and it's not a big miss on the age (a few years) then it'll probably sail through. A huge claim and they said the roof is under ten years old but shows obvious wear signs (broken/missing shingles, wear, sunfade, etc) then you've got a ...

Re: Prime America
Okay, dot2mom, you like Primerica. Happy for you. Now tell us more: How have sales been going ? How is your income? How many policies have you sold overall and then how many to non-controlled business? (Controlled means relatives or close friends). How many households do you sell a month & how m...

Re: House rules for calling dibs on an account. HELP!
An agency I worked in did this: Pure NB: first to get it in the system and a submission in to a market has it. Second (or third, fourth, etc) year opportunity: agent from last year has until 120 days from ex date to meet with client, get markets ready, basically do some work. If the original produce...

Primerica
I've got a friend who is thinking about Primerica. I have not heard much about them for years - I know they shifted their focus from "buy term & invest the difference" to more debt management but don't know much recent info. Have they changed their spots or are they still the same medi...

Re: Property Insurance - Agreed Amount
Hello all: I agree with the post above that talked about lousy submissions. As a former Hartford UW who handled medium property risks I grew tired of poor & inadequate information on property submissions. If a risk had more than a dozen or so locations there was not one agent who provided proper...

Re: New Opportunity
Ernie, forgive me if I'm boring you with too much info here. I liked the captive side when I was with Farmers - I knew my company, my products and the inner workings of it well. Knew how to get things done. Being an independent agent does have distinct advantages - choice of markets being the most o...

Re: New Opportunity
Ernie - one more thought. In some ways this is the best and the worst of times to start a new insurance endeavor. I'll start with the negative. The market is pretty soft right now, rates are low and competition is high. There are going to be a bunch of hungry new agents out there as well, all fighti...

Re: New Opportunity
Ernie - D is telling it like it is. Follow the advice given about talking to other SF agents. I'll mention that you can probably give up on the "sales manager within 90 days" part now. It's more complex than that and even if you are the top seller in your area you won't have time to be loo...

Re: E&O retro date - going from individual to corporation
Rob - I can't see any issues. Suing Joe Smith Inc for anything prior to 2009 would not be possible as the entity did not exist.

Re: E&O retro date - going from individual to corporation
Rob - Nobody has said this yet but it sounds like you have this covered correctly now. From what you are saying the dec page should look something like this: Joe Smith, Individual, retro date 2004 Joe Smith Inc, retro date 2004 Sounds like the underwriter was reasonable and slightly generous to effe...

Hey inskid:
Cool! Thanks for posting this. I hope more companies are willing to use it, seems like it fits the bill pretty well.

Re: House that is titled in the person's LLC
Personal policies cannot have a business entity as a named insured. They would no longer be a personal policy then, would they? Someone here got it partly right: get a renters policy for their contents & liability. You will need to get a commercial policy for the dwelling itself, it'll cost a bi...

Re: Crazy for starting an agency now?
I think this is a great time to start an agency. Do the hard work now - get those first few clients, get referrals, get staffing started, etc. Sometime - and it may be 18 months and it may be several years - the soft market will end and rates will jump. You will be well positioned to reap some serio...

Re: Aluminum wiring
Forgive me, but saying "no claims related to aluminum wiring for last 10 years" is another way of saying to an underwriter "this risk has been putting off getting this hazard replaced for over a decade". How much time do they need? Enjoy the E&S rates and high deductibles on ...

Re: Iroquois comments?
Insurance Noodle is great if you are into technology. They have the latest tech platform & have a lot of pull with their markets (I know as I used to work for Hartford and they did big biz with us every year). Superior Access is ok but they have had a spotty reputation with IJ folks. I have not ...
