Re: Do you purchase Damage Waiver when renting a car?
I personally think it's not worth it. There is no benefit if you already have insurance on another vehicle, it’s just redundant because that policy will cover you. It really isn't quite that simple, though I personally agree with the decision not to buy. For example, if you have a serious accident,...

Re: Do you purchase Damage Waiver when renting a car?
Short answer - No, it is not worth it. (That is what you asked) Long answer - It might be worth it for some situations. Your insurance policy, especially with some deluxe endorsements will cover most of the losses and some credit cards, especially Gold cards will cover most losses. The problem is th...

Re: Homeowners w/o Social Security #
Lots of Foreign nationals own vacation property here in the States. They have no SS# yet certainly have the right to buy property and insure it.

Re: Insuring vehicle owned by an estate
Not enough assets in the estate to pay off the loan? That is the usual solution.
Second best is to take out a new car loan in your own name to pay off the loan and have the car in your own name. All other solutions posted are workarounds and either legally lacking or will cost more for insurance.

Re: Non Compete Insurance?
Repeat after me, "Lawyers are not experts in insurance".
What kind of policy would cover an intentional act? Like I said, talk to an employment lawyer.

Re: Non Compete Insurance?
My understanding is that non-compete contracts are unenforceable almost everywhere. You can have non-piracy or similar contracts with penalties, but you cannot take away a person's occupation. You, or better, he, should contact a local employment law attorney.

Re: Has technology helped you downsize your office?
there is no hard and fast rul but the agency management experts say you should keep hardcopy files for 7 years then you can shred them as well. That is just plain wrong. The scanned copy replaces the hard copy, is not in addition to it. Keep the scanned original until you are sure the scanned data ...

Re: Agency Management System
Scott, I'll go out on a limb here and give you a straight opinion. After all, what else is this forum for? Since you will have 50 users, you will probably need a full time IT person anyway. Paying the extra money for a hosted ASP just doesn't make economic sense for you. Your in house IT pers...

Re: QQ Evolution/Solution Management System?
You bought a management system only a few months ago and now want to buy another? Maybe it was a bad decision, but changing again before you even learn the system and give it a chance is just stupid. You didn't know the price 6 months ago? Why not use the accounting? Even if you are mainly direct bi...

Re: Should friend buy an AllState Agency? - Help!
Really? According to a friend who is an Allstate agent, they are very restricted in who they can sell their agency to. Of all the Allstate agents in the area, only 2 are permitted to buy others. His son worked for him as a sub-agent and he could not sell to his own son. Your friend needs to first ta...

Re: Agency Management System
No, far more Sagitta owners are migrating over to Applied. Several of the largest agency groups in the country have purchased Epic and are converting over. Epic is doing just fine and is a fully functioning product. You really need to contact your area representative to take a new look. There will b...

Re: Agency Appointment/ Agent Certification
Probably much easier for you to get your agent's license and then negotiate with an agency with a contract with the placing company to pay you commission as a producer on the account. No need for handling your own taxes, E&O, Workers Comp.,etc. Make sure you negotiate ownership of the account.

Re: Agency Management System
The other consideration is that Applied "support fees" are not just for support, but also for all enhancements and upgrades. They charge nothing extra for upgrades. You want to upgrade, so that is the charge. I suspect that the amount would max out at the charge to buy the software all ove...
