Re: Carrier Login credentials & agency staff
I don't work in an office that has branches, but I have worked at a rather large agency that had about 20 companies, that all required logins. Most, if not all of the companies, requrired separate login information for each person who was accesing, which helped to minimize that problem. In addition,...

Re: Do you purchase Damage Waiver when renting a car?
While I usually tell my customers who ask, that their policy has coverage that will respond to the damage to a rental vehicle, I also encourage them to buy it if they are going to have the car for an extended period of time. The longer you have the car, the more likely you are to have or be in an ac...

Re: Apartment complex wants to be additional interest
Purple I so agree with you on you 'Pet peeve" B. I have had long drawn out arguments with banks on HO6's who think they know better than I in regards to putting them on as additional interest. I always want to ask them when they got their insurance license to see if they have been licensed long...

Re: Agency Management System
I don't know anything about Epic, but I have been a Tam user for some years. I have also been expose to AMS 360 and I would not migrate to that from Applied, unless you are prepared for a lot of preparatory work to get your system migrated from one to the other. Having used several Applied systems, ...

Re: How hard does your agency push umbrella coverage?
I quote a personal umbrella with every account that I quote. It is our policy to write all of your business, not just bits and pieces. This not only helps with retention, but make sure that you don't have any gaps in coverage because you didn't know that the insured had a second house or a 5th car. ...
Re: mgas
The most important thing, I think, to consider, is not getting too many MGA's. You can't "feed" them all and you get some overlap in company representation. My suggestion is to get one or two and develop relationships with the underwriters. They should ideally have different companies and ...

Re: Non-standard vrs. Standard Insurance
I agree, why limit yourself. Not anything against the non-standard market, but from my experience, those kinds of accounts are usually one-off. If you have experience with the high end clientele, my advice would be to grow that into a successful book of business. The more business someone has with y...

Re: Farmers Refuses to Pay Botched Auto Repair
yoyowordup--you are exactly right. I felt my post was getting long, so I didn't even venture into that part of the argument, but it has been my experience that clients may leave for Geico this year, but they usually come back after a claim, or after they discover that they have to talk to "pegg...

Re: Farmers Refuses to Pay Botched Auto Repair
"Isnt that part of the reason they have an agent? Otherwise, just go to GEICO." Having an agent does not mean that you have a personal claims adjustor. You have an agent to assist you in getting the best possible rates for your insurance, and assist you in filing any claims that you have ....

Re: GA's binding responsibility
depending on the GA, but you could reasonbly expect to have it within 24 to 48 business hours. That would be my expectation, or I would be on the phone with them to find out if there is some type of problem. Don't want to wait too long and expose your E&O

Re: Insured/policyholder dies - what to do?
Well, my 2 cents, from having worked in a very SMALL town, where the newspaper came out once a week, was that we did "cruise" the obits for information that we might need about our insureds. And having been through this, insurance is the last thing that you would think of, unless it is lif...

Re: Unique risks, what's your story?
I had a potential client to call me regarding GL for dive inspections. I figured he was maybe inspecting sunken vessels of some sort. When I inquired as to what exactly he was doing, he told me that he was diving into water towers with a camera to inspect them! I haven't placed this account yet, sin...

Re: Better Call Handling
I have asked, very well established clients, would they rather talk to the one in charge, or the one who knows what's going on? My point always is, the Account Manager (I don't like the term CSR) is the one who usually always, has the most current information on the client, is usally more accessible...
