Federal Flood Fund Funding Debate

Fellow Insurance Workers, I keep hearing in the news about the Flood funding and keeping it solvent. I was wondering if anyone else thinks the way I do... Currently, the Flood fund is paid for by policyholders AND subsidized by everyone else. My question is, if states can pool auto, home, and busine...

Re: Diminishing Role of the Agent for P&C Insurance

bjwestner, This type of coverage is auto replacement, commonly available in countries outside the USA. There are two types, same value, and new. Same value pays for the cost to replace a vehicle, so not just the value but the sales tax, missed work, etc. New does the same thing but allows you to tot...

Re: Diminishing Role of the Agent for P&C Insurance

The agent is not the only one allowed to discuss insurance. We all discuss what remedies someone should take for a cough, fever, etc but we are not doctors. We discuss the outcomes of trials and crimes as if we were lawyers, but we aren't. We are allowed to discuss these things within limits as defi...

Re: Diminishing Role of the Agent for P&C Insurance

Auto is being sold more online because it has been commoditized. This is because auto policies are small, well understood policies where the risk is known and can be priced very accurately. Thereby allowing the big boys to fight for that margin of profit. Its why companies such as small companies an...

Re: Does local outsourcing benefit the retail agency?

Outsourcing is valid for two reasons: 1-You don't have the expertise inhouse 2-Its significantly cheaper somewhere else Seems like you have the expertise, why not train someone(s)? and save the expense, unless.. Number two, your in someplace like NYC, and you can have it done in Arkansas, pay the ov...

Re: Why Would an Agency Retain Trust Account Service?

I recommend to our agency partners (>1000) that they maintain a separate trust bank account. All premium payments, cancellations, etc should be processed through this account. All bills, paychecks, commissions etc should be processed through your general account. This way, you know that if you have ...

Re: Anyone with opinion on EZBuy electronic signatures

I understand you are probably trying to sell this tech Kelso. An agent is a rep for a company, and if the company likes it, and that agent uses it, great. All of the companies I work with accept an e-click with a handwritten signature on file, or a handwritten e-signature, however none will accept a...

Re: mgas

Yes, Every company and parent company of every MGA has been in business for 90+ years. They did not increase their business by 50%, please read more carefully, some of them have increased new business by 50%. Most of that business is coming...or running away from direct writers. My point is that lon...

Well yes, you did make derogatory statements of agents and their associations.

...and FYI, many independent agents have grown significantly in the past few years.

Re: Anyone with opinion on EZBuy electronic signatures

Wow, So your saying an independent agent can't compete without a thing like EZBuy? ...and your also saying independent agents and associations have no brains because they won't endorse it??? Wow My experience with State Farm, Farmers, and others vs independent companies is that good independent agen...

Insurance Journal, Jan 10 Errors

The 2011 Insurance Industry Meetings and Conventions Directy contains several errors that lists MAIA (Missouri) events as hosted by Michigan agents and has the Michigan website. I also saw several other state listings that I was suspicious of.

Re: mgas

The business practices speak volumes about companies. How long have they been in business is a foremost criteria I have. I think EVERY company we represent has been in business over 90 years. They are conservative, competent, and don't change on a whim. The recent financial crisis barely affected th...

Why limit yourself? My successful agent friends offer a range of products to meet all their customers needs. That is why the independent agent represents multiple companies.
