Re: Earthquake Insurance for Apartment Building
Have you tried American E & S? They are in San Francisco, (415) 398-7475. Ask for Dave Pinto and he will get you to an underwriter. They have a good list of carriers, too. Good Luck!

Re: Vacant Condo in California
You may ask the current HO4 carrier if they will write a DP3 policy on the condo. One of our appointed carriers does this for us on a regular basis. They can cover the improvements and betterments, contents coverage ("landlord's furnishings") and add the OLT all on the same policy. They wi...

Re: Farmers Insurance
Hunter600, Wow..you are not alone. What is the deal with Farmers Agents and fraud? Many years ago (in the 70's) I worked for a Farmers agent who was not only doing what you described (not a dm, but an actual agent for Farmers) but he was also falsifying policy numbers and pocketing return premiums. ...

Re: Ranting about MGA correspondence
Hi D, My sympathies go out to you. I understand your frustration, especially in this soft market. I would shudder to think that customer service is going by the way-side! Maybe the economy is affecting some markets and they have had to cut back, but I would agree that this is the wrong place to cut ...

Re: Looking at Farmer's
I agree with Mica. Why Farmer's of all carriers? I worked for a Farmer's agent when starting in this buisness. THEY OWN THE AIR YOU BREATHE. Why don't you try working for a large independent agency to get your feet wet, so to speak. You can gain enough experience and then go independent. In the P &a...

Re: Val Pak Advertising or Any other that worked for you
Hi Curve, I'm not sure what the mind-set is like in PA, but out here in CA, most of the Val-Pak stuff is treated like trash. It may or may not work. But if you are going to cold-call, you would be best to send out a "personal" letter to neighbors in your area by using a mailing service or ...

Re: Commerce West Ins Good/Bad Experience
Hi Jack, We have been using this carrier since way back when it was known as "Western Pioneer Insurance". Our agency has been in business since after WWII when this company was a niche market for auto insurance for Japanese and Japanese Americans in the 50's, although they would write for ...

Re: Ex-Real Estate Marketer Seeks Career Change into Insurance
Hi Mark, Hold onto that RE license while learning the ropes of the insurance industry. I would try to get into a large Brokerage Firm and get a year or two of experience in commercial and personal lines. Stay away from the captive market. You would be very limited and your business is not your own. ...

Indie, Did you try American E & S or Burns and Wilcox, both in San Francisco? Lexington may be the only way to go as they are the ones who do my COC's. Cambridge General Agency in Walnut Creek does (I think they use Lexington too,, though). You can also try Anderson & Murison, Appleby and St...
