That's actually a broad question... Agency income: Commissions that our companies offer go from 9% to 20%. Many have growth and profitability based continent commissions. We also have agency fees that we charge that contribute to the bottom line. Some non-insurance products we sell pay 30 - 35% comm...

I really don't mind the negative "can't win" attitude on personal lines, because obviously some agents and companies are winning, or they wouldn't be fighting so hard for pieces of the pie. The more people throw in the towel the more opportunities there will be for people like Porter and m...

Unfortunately personal lines is kind of hard to just "get into". My dad (and now his two sons myself one of them) have been very successful in personal lines. We have several big yellow page ads, sponsor a lot of university student organizations locally, have a nice website with local refe...

Your carriers, at least the ones wanting standard business in the P&C lines, will likely look down upon writing business for a client you have never met face to face. Exactly. Progressive is the only company in our office that encourage you to write it by phone, and even then, only on auto poli...

I have read about actors and actresses insuring their body parts through Lloyd's of London... Jennifer Lopez literally insures her ass, America Ferrera her smile.

Re: Negotiating lower limits

Lauren is the only one that gets it! The client has already decided not to purchase higher limits. He does not want to spend the money for more insurance if he doesn't have to. You have already offered him higher limits and he doesn't want them. Get it? Now he wants you to call his Custmer and see ...

Yeah, I'd say that would be an E & O risk, and I would never ever attempt it. I always try to sell higher limits, and to try and convince someone or some business to lower theirs doesn't make sense.

Re: Insurance Scoring

We have many peculiar laws here...one I do not agree with is that it's against the law to "discriminate" against age when rating vehicle insurance...that means I get to subsidize all those young male drivers! Are you kidding? In Hawaii age is not allowed to be used as a rating factor? :o

True, but that's not why I'm asking. I want opinions! :)

Insurance Scoring

This is a controversial subject, and I'm just curious about other people's opinions.

Re: Certs of insurance - mail original

The COI request I just received wants a fax, a mailed original and my insurance license number. Perhaps they want me to also make lunch for them??? So much for the paperless office. Maybe the person requesting the COI is married to someone at the post-office and wants me to participate in the incre...

I bought the "Smart" study aids that they offer with the texts. I've passed 5/8 of the CPCU courses so far. If you actually study then do the Smart study aids, I think that'd be more than enough.

Perhaps we need to come up with a FAQ with the most basic of questions already answered there, and make it a "read first" sticky. Sound like a good idea?
