As a former captive agent, I had a DM for about 4 years that was an expert on marketing. He always preached "Market Your Agency" as the brand sold itself. He was never accepted by the veteran agents he inherited. Had they took his advice as I did, many of them would not be in the position ...

If your going independant, do not worry about P&C training. The main carriers hold webinars monthly. You can also get training from the Sales Reps.

If you have any kind of common sense, you will leearn the products quickly as they are easy.

Scotts a business man, seems to tell it like it is with out sugar coating it.

People that can not take the blunt end of reality do not belong in this business. The rejection rate will drive you out as quick as you got in.

Take his suggestions to the bank or the unemployment line.

Go to your local bank and ask them about an ARC Loan through the SBA. Its $35K loan. Payments start in month 13 so you get one year with out payments. Then, the SBA picks up the interest. Independant companies offer a variety of training on Product Knowledge. Almost weekly, one is offering a webinar with CE credits. Farmers U has diminished the usefullness of the DM. Become more of a terminator then a trainer. Soon as my old DM gets his district down to five agents, what do you think Farmers will do to him?
