Re: selling flood insurance

We a don't have a lot of flood insurance in our agency, as most don't want it if they aren't required to have it by their mortgage company. We have sent out a letter to all of our homeowners clients stating that it is not covered under their home policies to CYA, but, we had absolutely no response t...

Re: How do agents handle credit scoring?

Now days, most companies pull an insurance score in the background after information is input into their system. Used to, we had to pull one and input the information ourselves. As this is no longer done, agents are not privy to any information as to what the insurance score is. I don't know if a co...

Re: Service Center

As a veteran CSR, I was told many moons ago, that the only thing we, as an insurance agency, had to offer that was different than our competitors, was ourselves, and our service. I wholeheartedly agree! I have worked for several small agencies that did not utilize the service centers, and one larger...

Western Security Surplus has a bar program, so I am sure they would be able to insure the bldg for the owner who leases it out.

Re: Marketing Marketing Marketing

Service, is after all, the only thing we really have to sell. We can't offer anybody anything that is different from (much) from anyone else. Other than price, all our products are basically the same.

Re: Metlife Auto and Home in California

Well I don't have a Met appointment in Ca, but I do have one in Texas. In my experience, they do not offer anything that you can't elsewhere, and their website is awful. If you have other companies that you are writing business with, I would say you probably don't need them.

Re: MetLife in Texas

Brian: If I were you, I would try to write my business elsewhere besides Met. We have Met, Safeco, Travelers and Republic and Met is by far the highest rate we get, most of the time. For the older home market, usually Safeco does a good job, as long as there are updates and you insure to the value t...

I believe they are part of St. Paul/Travelers. Unless they are on the non-admitted paper side of it, probably won't be able to beat them.

Re: Best Sub-Standard Carriers

We use Progressive as our exclusive surplus auto carrier.

Depending on the carrier that you use, they may not allow you to have more than one auto policy per household due to "stacking limits".

For the trucking risks that we have written, we go to US Risk in San Antonio, Heather Camp. You might also try Capstone Underwriters in Dallas. Either of these has a dedicated department for transportation risks.

Re: Garagekeepers Legal Liability

Well, I am not sure if the house is in the US or Maylasia. However, in the US, the person who owns the home needs to purchase dwelling and liability insurance to cover the house and include any contents that are left there. The tenant would need to purchase insurance for their belongings, which woul...

Re: Help with hiring a CSR

Having been the "hiree" in the above scenario, and having been both #1 and #2 people on one occassion, my thoughts would be to go with the first canidate. I also do not feel that the "personality profiles" and such give you a good clue as to who people are. I have taken the tests...
