NY P/C Agents Can Now Renew Licenses On-line

New York State Insurance Department Superintendent Gregory V. Serio announced that for the first time property/casualty agents in New York State can renew their licenses over the Internet.

“The new on-line program for property/casualty agents builds on the on-line technology of individual life and accident and health licensees that was unveiled last year,” said the NYSID announcement. They’ve been able to use the Internet since last June when the Department initiated the program.

“The successful use of technology to improve customer service and enhance efficiency and communication between regulators and the industry is a key component of the Governor’s e-Government initiative, promoting a government without walls,” Serio stated.

The NYSID gave the following details concerning the steps an agent would follow to use the on-line procedures:
– A licensee will access the application on the Department’s Web site and key in a password unique to that user.
– Once the entry is cleared and the license is selected, instructions appear to assist the licensee in completing the application.
– Once the application is completed, the user is asked if they want to pay by credit card or check.
– Licenses are issued to those who pay by credit card within 24-48 hours, while those who decide to pay by check are mailed their licenses upon receipt of payment by the Department.
