Two South Dakota Fire Departments Receive $240,000 in FEMA Grants

January 6, 2009

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded a total of more than $240,000 to two South Dakota fire departments.

The McIntosh Volunteer Fire Department gets most of the money, over $180,000 for vehicle acquisition.

And the Sisseton Volunteer Fire Department receives a grant of almost $63,000 for operations and safety.

The money is from the latest round of FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters grants, a program that the agency says is designed to strengthen the nation's overall level of preparedness.

The current round of grants totals over $21 million nationally.
