Michigan Suspends License of Lapeer-Area Insurance Agent

The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) has suspended the license of James J. Carnaghi, previously licensed to sell property and casualty, accident and health, and life insurance in the state.

The order of suspension was issued following a thorough investigation by DIFS, which uncovered numerous instances of fraudulent auto insurance policies being issued. The investigation was triggered by information received from the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department.

DIFS discovered that Carnaghi collected premiums from at least 20 Michigan drivers and provided them with false certificates of insurance.

Consumers who have purchased insurance from Carnaghi should contact their insurance company to ensure that they have valid insurance coverage.
