Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has lifted a state of emergency in 51 of West Virginia’s 55 counties following cleanup of the recent winter storm.
Tomblin says the declaration issued last week will continue until Friday evening in Berkeley, Jefferson, Morgan and Preston counties.
The declaration allowed the National Guard to assist in response efforts.
Parts of the state received more than 3 feet of snow from the storm. Roads crews needed several days to clear snow off primary and secondary routes, and public schools remained closed Wednesday in more than a dozen counties.
In Jefferson County, where nearly 41 inches of snow fell in Shepherdstown, schools will remain closed through Friday.
