A 28-year-old Utah man has been ordered to stand trial for automobile homicide after police say he was texting while driving when he struck and killed a teenage pedestrian.
Jeffrey Lloyd Bascom of Jensen faces a felony charge of obstructing justice along with second-degree automobile homicide in the Sept. 3 death of 15-year-old Tommy Clark.
Police say Clark and a friend were walking in Vernal along 500 West near 1200 South at about 9 p.m. when Clark was hit from behind by Bascom’s pickup truck. The impact threw him about 40 feet.
A man who was following Bascom when the crash occurred testified in 8th District Court on Wednesday that Bascom told him he had been texting when he crashed into Clark. The trial is set for May 29.
