Inland Marine - Engineer - Offsite live in trailer

Post by Rob »

I have a engineering company here in CA that has a BOP through Zurich. They are purchasing some travel trailer type trailers that are going to be used at a jobsite where they are doing some surveying. He utilizes employees from a PEO. These employees will be residing overnight in the trailers while doing this work. Zurich will not insure these and advised we seek coverage outside of their program. Can anyone offer any advice on how to properly insure this exposure and what is the best route to go for this coverage (carrier, General agent) etc. Thank you.

Hey Rob did you try Pacific Specialty or Foremost? I would at least call the underwriter..I don't think they need to know how or who is using these trailers, If you rate them Rental use. If there is a ton of commercial work going on around these locations for get it. Sur-plus lines is your only answer.

Yes sanddog, they will be on a jobsite where construction will be occuring. I don't have a problem going surplus lines. I want to be sure I classify it correctly. For some reason I'm concerned about the fact that employees will be living in the trailers so I wasn't sure if I needed to classify it differently.

Rob, your absolutely correct, the liability exposure would only pick up under comprehensive liability, not a GL with these mobile home exposures. The carrier will cancel upon inspection. I would call them, if I remember right Pacific Specialty may have a policy that would work. You know come to think of it Foremost may have something too.

If these trailers are used commercially though, I don't think Pacific Specialty or Foremost will do it though. I can't just write it as a mobile home since it is used for business. These trailers are owned by the corporation.

Because the trailers are corp owned PSIC would not allow under a standard comprehensive mobile home policy. I don't see that Zurich would cover the trailers as business personal property, the reason is they are picking up the GL. You really should call Foremost or PSIC I think they still may have a stand alone program for commercial trailers.
