Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking an experienced marketing leader for the role of Director, Marketing. This position will play a central role in helping define and drive the overarching marketing strategy for the business area supported, translating business objectives into integrated marketing programs that generate profitable growth.

What Will You Do?
  • Campaign Execution/ Mgmt.:
  • Consult with and works collaboratively with marketing partner(s), assigned business partner(s) and enterprise partners to create and execute more complex integrated marketing campaigns aligned to specific business needs.
  • Develop the marketing strategy for a business area. Partner with internal teams (i.e., product, underwriting, analytics, sales, etc.) to shape go-to-market plans and monitor competitive and consumer trends to continuously evolve positioning
  • Responsible for managing content development (design, written, multimedia) for assigned campaigns to ensure that campaign objectives are met; shepherds material through the review/approval process.
  • Executes more complex traditional marketing tactics such as email, ecards, webinars, newsletters, sell sheets, brochures; and digital marketing such as video, social and web for assigned campaigns.
  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of more complex campaigns and adjusts tactics as appropriate. Tracks results and conducts post-campaign ROI analysis and reporting. Recommends adjustments to tactics.
  • Able to demonstrate how each marketing campaign ties back to marketing and business strategies for each campaign.
  • Reviews and analyzes research on business and consumer insights on more complex marketing campaigns and develops recommendations on the directions of the marketing campaigns and content development.
  • Responsible for ongoing maintenance/refresh of campaign content and tactics on more complex campaigns.
  • Supports agency and industry events by executing marketing components and contributing to key message development. May provide project management leadership.
  • Has advanced knowledge of established processes, approvals and best practices.
  • Collaboration:
  • Works closely with marketing and business partners to understand business priorities and objectives.
  • Partner with functional business partners ( Product, Distribution and Marketing) in implementing new marketing approaches. Consults on more complex marketing related requests, tasks and activities and makes recommendations based on the business objectives.
  • Collaborates with Enterprise partners on brainstorming more complicated owned, earned and paid tactics associated with all initiatives.
  • Consults with the field staff regarding the effective use of the campaign material/tactics to enable the sales process.
  • Project Management:
  • Acts as Project Manager and takes the lead on the more complex projects and campaigns.
  • Accountable for follow up and follow through of all facets of integrated marketing campaign tactics.
  • Leadership:
  • Stays attuned to relevant market conditions and trends in order to drive effective messaging and tactics to targeted audiences.
  • Partners with Enterprise to bring innovative thought leadership to the business by staying abreast of new marketing concepts, tools and technology and integrating them into the campaign development.
  • As a senior member of the team will take a leadership role in mentoring/coaching new and junior level employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Typically 7+ years of experience in marketing generalist role.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • General knowledge of the Property Casualty insurance or related field.
  • Experience in the Financial Services/Insurance Industry or 3rd Party Distribution model.
  • General knowledge of the business financial drivers, structure and operations.
  • General Knowledge: Possesses sufficient knowledge to perform most work in normal situations.).
  • Knowledge of AI-driven marketing tools and emerging martech capabilities.
  • Intermediate written and verbal communications skills.
  • Intermediate project management and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate consulting skills.
  • Intermediate analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Intermediate presentation skills.
  • Intermediate skill/competency level: demonstrates solid knowledge and ability; can apply the competency with minimal or no guidance, in the full range of typical situations.
  • Requires guidance handling novel or more complex situations.


What is a Must Have?
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in marketing related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience supporting the management of integrated campaigns.
  • General knowledge of all facets of owned, earned and paid tactics.
  • Thorough knowledge of content writing and tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of multifunctional areas such as: digital execution, promotion, advertising, research, competitive analysis, communications, brand management, website management.
