Pete Garvey, current president of Integro Ltd., assumed the additional responsibility of CEO for the insurance broker, succeeding Roger Egan, who has left the company. Garvey has served as president of Integro since 2005. He was among the original founders of Integro in 2005, along with Egan and Robert Clements.

Oregon’s largest private workers’ compensation insurer, Liberty Northwest, a Liberty Mutual Agency Markets regional company, appointed Julie A. Burnett president and CEO. She succeeds Larry Becker, who has decided to retire. Burnett comes from Safeco Corp., where her career spanned more than 20 years in executive capacities, including field operations, field sales and as vice president of Safeco’s Midwest Commercial Lines division.

William Stovin was named president and chief operating officer of Markel International, replacing Gerry Albanese, who will return to the United States to assume a senior executive position with Markel Corp.

Additionally, Jeremy Brazil will become president of Markel International Insurance Co. Ltd.

Stovin was heavily involved in the reorganization of the company after its acquisition by Markel in 2000. In 2005, he was appointed director of administration, and in February 2008, he was named chief administrative officer.

Brazil has been underwriting in the London market since 1989. He became director of reinsurance in 2001. For the past two years, he has been responsible for the strategic management of the underwriting divisions.

Venture Insurance Programs named Michael DeMarco executive vice president for its Preferred Club Program. He will be responsible for the success of the insurance program for golf and country clubs. Previously, DeMarco was worldwide property manager for the department of Financial Institutions at the Chubb Group, where he worked for 13 years.

Aon Risk Services of the West appointed Julie Davis to its senior management team in the technology practice to strengthen its San Francisco/Bay Area team.

Davis will be tasked with building on client relationships, new business development and growing the middle-market technology sector. Under Davis’ stewardship, Aon launched Wired for Growth, a bundling of insurance products, risk solutions and value propositions for early stage technology. She has a 15-year tenure at Aon, focused primarily the technology industry.

Wells Fargo Insurance Services Inc. named David Carroll senior vice president and West region property practice leader. Based in Redwood City, Calif., he will coordinate and manage property-related risk management and insurance services in the West (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington).

Carroll will work with large Wells Fargo customers and their sales and service teams, providing technical assistance; and advice and support in the analysis, structure and marketing of complex property insurance placements. He also will assist the risk control, property engineering and claims consulting teams in risk analysis, loss prevention and the management and resolution of significant property insurance losses.

San Francisco-based Woodruff-Sawyer & Co. hired James Settles as North Bay benefits practice leader to focus on client relationship management, business development and growth of the employee benefits practice.

Settles has 22 years of experience designing and managing health and welfare programs. Previously, he spent 12 years with ABD Insurance Services.

Zurich North America Commercial named Richard (Dick) Richiski head of distribution and regional management for its specialties business unit.

Richiski’s career spans 25 years, during which he held senior-level product line, underwriting, sales and marketing positions. He joined Zurich in 1996, and was chief operating officer for the specialties business unit.

Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc. appointed Orlando D. Ashford senior vice president of human resources. He joins MMC from the Coca-Cola Co., where he was group director of human resources for Eurasia and Africa.

Sally B. Narey was appointed general counsel and Greg Tacchetti was appointed chief administrative officer at Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. Both also will be senior vice presidents.

Narey will be responsible for corporate legal governance, legal and regulatory insurance issues, government and external affairs, and corporate litigation. She will support Allianz of America on legal matters.

Tacchetti has responsibility for management information, communications, metrics and compliance. He also leads efforts for initiatives such as customer focus and sustainability with Fireman’s Fund’s parent, Allianz.

California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund promoted Suzanne Ah-Tye to chief counsel of the legal department.

Ah-Tye brings more than 25 years of State Fund legal experience to her new post. She began her State Fund career in 1981 as staff counsel with the Oakland office. Most recently, she was assistant chief counsel of subrogation at State Fund’s San Francisco headquarters.

Stephen Ray was appointed manager of the utilization review and lien unit for the claims/rehabilitation department.

Ray was hired as a claims adjuster in the organization’s San Jose District Office in 1990. By 2000, he was promoted to San Jose District Office assistant claims manager.

Additionally, Marie Tillman was promoted to claims manager for State Fund’s state contract services in Sacramento. Tillman brings more than two decades of workers’ compensation experience to her new post. Her most recent assignment was in 2004, when she served as assistant claims manager of the Stockton District Office.

Risk Placement Services of Scottsdale, Ariz., promoted Douglas B. Rutherford to area president/branch manager. He will be responsible for the operations of RPS Scottsdale and its satellite locations in Washington, Idaho and Wyoming.

Rutherford has been with RPS Scottsdale for more than five years, and has more than a 30-year career in the surplus lines industry. Previously, he held executive positions at American Equity, Nautilus and Great Southwest Fire.

Aon Corp. named Karen Mildenhall executive vice president of Aon Construction Services Group.

In addition to her responsibilities with the construction team, Mildenhall assumes responsibility for Aon Risk Services in Phoenix as resident managing director. She has more than 22 years of experience as a business leader. She previously was managing director at Marsh.

Strongwood Insurance Holding Corp. appointed Jim Parrett president of the company’s retail division: Lawson & Blevins Insurance located in Woodland, Calif.

Parrett has a 29-year career in the industry. Most recently, he headed the Northern California operations for HRH.

Brian Manassero joined AmWINS Insurance Brokerage in the Chatsworth, Calif., office as a vice president. He will specialize in property and product liability placements, and has 12 years of industry experience. He most recently was a senior broker at Western Security Surplus.

Los Angeles-based Lemac & Associates promoted Gloria Li-lien Lam to vice president.

Lam, who specializes in workers’ compensation, began her career with Lemac & Associates in 2006 as assistant vice president. Previously, she was an assistant vice president of marketing for Zenith Insurance Co.’s Los Angeles regional office.

Cavignac & Associates hired Caroline Edkins as an account administrator.

Edkins has more than 16 years of experience. Before joining Cavignac & Associates, Edkins served for three years as an account administrator for a large regional insurance broker in San Diego. Her prior career experience includes positions with LDZ Group Inc., Spencer Douglass Insurance, Calgaro Insurance and CIGNA.

California Department of Insurance Fraud Division Bureau Chief Rick Plein was appointed deputy commissioner of the enforcement branch. Plein will replace retiring Deputy Commissioner Dale Banda. Plein has more than 19 years of law enforcement experience.

Mark Toohey was promoted to senior vice president of media relations for Los Angeles-based Farmers Insurance Co. He will be responsible for leading and managing all media relations, external communications and related activities.

Charlotte, N.C.-based AmWins Group Inc. named Ben Francavilla director of Program Development. He will be responsible for driving the marketing strategy for the underwriting division, which comprises six managing general agencies that work exclusively with retail agencies throughout the United States.

Previously, Francavilla served as senior managing director of AmWins Program Underwriters. He will continue to retain those duties as part of the new position.

Woodland Hills, Calif.-based C.M. Meiers Co. Inc. named Greg Jones managing director for the production insurance division of CMM Entertainment, a division of C.M. Meiers Co. Inc. A 28-year veteran of the insurance industry, Jones began his career in New York in 1977 with AIG. Jones joined CMM Entertainment in July, 2005 as vice president, production insurance.

James R. Allen joined San Francisco-based Woodruff-Sawyer & Co. to focus on client consultation in business and individual life and disability insurance.

Allen has more than 35 years of consulting experience, helping executives and individuals plan for the future with deferred compensation plan designs, estate planning, financial planning and pre-retirement counseling. Prior to Woodruff-Sawyer, he spent 21 years with Marsh (formerly Sedgwick Noble Lowndes).

American E&S Insurance Brokers appointed Frank Cardoso senior vice president and broker in its Fresno, Calif., branch. He recently was president of Network E&S Insurance Brokers. His assistant, Martine Taylor, is joining him at American E&S.
