American International Group Inc. announced that AIG Vice President Charles Dangelo has been appointed AIG’s senior reinsurance officer, effective immediately. In this role, he will be responsible for all outward reinsurance relationships involving AIG companies.

Dangelo will continue to be based in New York, where most recently he had served as president of AIG Global Risk Management Inc. (AIGGRM).

Dangelo joined AIG in 1995 to head the AIG Domestic Brokerage Group Primary Casualty/Risk Management Unit. Prior to joining AIG, he had 25 years of insurance industry experience in underwriting and managing large, complex risks for major accounts. He was elected an AIG vice president in 2002.

Louis Iglesias succeeds Dangelo as AIGGRM president. Previously, he was the president of AIG Environmental. Iglesias joined AIG in 1994 and has served in senior roles including president of the Construction Division of AIG Risk Management.

ACE USA, the U.S.-based retail division of The ACE Group of Companies, announced two appointments in its International Advantage unit.

Alfred Bergbauer has been named senior vice president, ACE USA International Advantage, and John Scales has been named vice president, underwriting for ACE USA International Advantage. The ACE USA International Advantage unit provides international insurance products and services for U.S.-based businesses.

Bergbauer leads a team of international property and casualty underwriting specialists that is responsible for delivering international programs, specialty coverages and client services for U.S.-based companies with global operational needs.

Prior to joining ACE, Bergbauer was South Region International practice leader at Marsh USA Inc. His career in international insurance and business also includes serving as chief executive officer of two insurance companies in Asia.

Scales will be responsible for overseeing the underwriting function within the International Advantage unit and will lead the growth of the custom casualty underwriting segment. He joins ACE from Marsh USA Inc., where he served as senior vice president, Southeastern Zone International practice leader.

Health plan manager and insurance services provider Gilsbar Inc., headquartered in Covington, La., announced the addition of Douglas Layman, chief sales and marketing officer and corporate vice resident. In this newly created position, Layman will oversee health and life sales and marketing initiatives at Gilsbar as part of the overall strategy to manage the increased demand for Gilsbar’s health plan administration services on a national level.

Layman brings to Gilsbar experience as the former CSMO for HCap Strategies, a national benefit administration services company, specializing in consumer driven reimbursement accounts, flexible spending accounts and benefit administration outsourcing.

Farmington Hills, Mich.-based wholesaler Burns & Wilcox has appointed Dan Brimer as a brokerage manager in the company’s St. Louis office. As a Burns & Wilcox brokerage manager, Brimer is responsible for the placement of large, complex property/casualty risks for the company’s network of agents. Brimer’s hire represents Burns & Wilcox’s continuing growth strategy to offer global resources through local service centers.

Brimer joins Burns & Wilcox with eight years of previous experience as a wholesale broker as well as 21 years of underwriting and managing surplus line and national account business.

RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. announced that Neill Currie has rejoined the company as an executive vice president.

Currie’s chief responsibility will be to head RenaissanceRe’s firm-wide marketing and client relations activities. He will be based at the company’s headquarters in Pembroke, Bermuda. Currie most recently served as a director of Platinum Underwriters Holdings.

California-based Lockton Insurance Brokers Inc. appointed Scott Ferguson as vice president. He will be responsible for developing business with large middle market accounts, focusing on retail, manufacturing and construction.

Ferguson’s experience in commercial insurance spans more than 16 years, working on both the brokerage and carrier sides of the industry. Prior to joining Lockton, he was vice president at Willis Risk and Insurance Services of San Diego where he produced and managed a book of construction risks in the U.S. as well as in conjunction with other offices in Australia and Canada.

Ferguson started his career as a claims examiner at Keenan and Associates and later served as risk manager for PETCO, a national specialty retail chain with more than $1.2 billion in revenue, before joining AIG as assistant vice president of national accounts.

Irvine, Calif.-based Millennium Corporate Solutions has hired Matt Welty as its resident surety and bonds expert.

Welty, who has more than 20 years of experience specializing in surety products, began his career at Amwest Surety Insurance Company, in San Bernardino in 1986 as its branch manager. Following that, he worked for 10 years at CalBond Insurance Agency in Corona as a surety specialist. Most recently, Welty owned and operated Critical Path Surety Insurance Agency Inc. in Irvine.

San Antonio-based health care benefits administrator Benefit Planners Inc. announced the appointment of Brennan Clipp as vice president of sales and marketing for the Dallas region and the opening of a new Dallas office where she will oversee business development in a three-state area.

With more than 15 years of experience in the field of sales, marketing, benefits consulting, network management and accounting, Clipp will head up the new office. She will be responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships in Dallas/Fort Worth, north and east Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
