Job Description

The Cyber Recovery Infrastructure Managing Engineer contributes to and directs and drives the engineering resources involved in the management of network computing, and storage infrastructure which supports Allstate’s Cyber Recovery Environment capabilities. The Cyber Recovery Environment consists of the hardware and software platforms required to support the most critical business functions needed when normal production systems are not accessible or available. This role encompasses managing detailed system design as well as implementation, testing and coordination of operational maintenance of all related systems and technologies associated with the Cyber Recovery Environment.

The Managing Engineer leads, counsels, motivates, sets expectations and evaluates the team responsible for maintaining Allstate’s Cyber Recovery Environment. The Managing Engineer impacts the team and business results by working with the Cyber Recovery Environment Digital Product Manager to manage the prioritization and implementation of maintenance procedures and best practices for the Cyber Recovery Environment.

Span of Control


  • Manage team of up to 12 direct reports.



  • Manage budget for the Cyber Recovery Environment and its operations.



  • Supporting contract management for vendors associated with the Allstate Cyber Recovery Environment.



Accountabilities


  • Build long-term relationships within team and amongst peers by creating an environment of safety, innovation, integrity, and honest open communication.



  • Model and create an environment of accountability for direct reports and peers.



  • Establish vision, direction and specific objectives for team efforts allowing individual freedom of action to accomplish objectives.



  • Execute HR-related processes including setting goals, collecting performance data and developing and mentoring team based on open, timely and honest feedback.



  • Set and execute platform strategy, including objectives, plans and policies to develop and deliver innovative solutions and systems in support of Enterprise goals.



  • Manage day to day work of direct reports by working with Cyber Recovery Environment product manager to review work backlogs and prioritization of work tasks.



  • Coordinate with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.



  • Drive decisions that have an impact on quality, availability and effectiveness of business activities beyond immediate teams.



  • Initiate and implement continuous improvements in the Cyber Recovery Environment, including automation of complex tasks and delivery of cyber-attack recovery related services.



  • Influence direct reports, clients, service providers and peers to successfully deliver on cyber resiliency goals and commitments.



  • Partner with others in the organization to set and manage expectations associated with Allstate’s Cyber Recovery Environment, continually seek opportunities to be a thought partner and deepen relationships.



  • Adapt communication approach for audiences at multiple internal and external levels.



Education


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.



Required Experience and Qualifications


  • 3+ years of managing a technical team.



  • People leadership capabilities.



  • Experience leading or working in a geographically dispersed team environment. 



  • Experience working with and implementing enterprise level IT infrastructure platforms including Network, Network Security, Storage, Compute.



Preferred Experience and Qualifications


  • Experience in the delivery and support of Cyber Resiliency and Recovery capabilities.



  • Exposure and experience with both on-premise and Cloud technology infrastructures.  Knowledge of Azure and/or AWS would be desirable.



  • Exposure to data protection technologies with capabilities to store immutable copies of data.



  • Exposure to and basic understanding of data anomaly and threat detection capabilities.



  • Understanding of core network switching and routing constructs.



  • Understanding of network security infrastructure management, such as firewall administration.



  • Exposure to virtual compute infrastructure management.



  • Understanding of compute, storage and network infrastructure delivery through automation (IaaS).

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is $104,000.00 - 187,625.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
