Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to join our finance and accounting team as a Senior Insurance Accountant. In this position, you will play a key role in the accounting function for our insurance operations on both a Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) basis and assist with all financial and regulatory reporting requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in insurance accounting, a strong work ethic, and a proactive approach to problem solving.
Responsibilities
- Execute all aspects of the insurance accounting process (premiums, commissions, losses) on both a GAAP and SAP basis
- Create journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Analyze monthly and quarterly fluctuations impacting accounts
- Assist with the preparation of statutory Quarterly Statements and the Annual Statement, including all exhibits and schedules, as well as the audited statutory financial statements
- Enter data into the insurance software used to generate the statutory statements
- Ensure the accuracy and consistency of the data presented in GAAP and statutory insurance reporting schedules
- Assist with the audit of the statutory financial statements, working closely with external auditors and internal stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with all NAIC and state department of insurance regulatory reporting requirements
- Assist with completion of internal controls associated with areas of responsibility
- Participate in ad-hoc analysis and special projects as needed to support the broader goals of the finance and accounting department
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years of progressive experience in insurance accounting (both GAAP and SAP)
- Strong understanding of GAAP and SAP insurance accounting principles
- Experience with insurance financial reporting software (e.g., SOVOS, Sapiens)
- Excellent analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and analyze complex financial data
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
