Panelist Bios:

Tom Larsen is a principal at CoreLogic, who is responsible for subject matter expertise and thought leadership focused around insurance, hazard risk, climate change and catastrophe risk modeling. He has experience in natural catastrophe modeling for insurance, reinsurance and the government, dating back to 1989. He’s written articles for numerous publications, participated in various industry panels and has undertaken speaking engagements regarding the financial impacts of natural catastrophes. Larsen earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Stanford University and his master’s degree in structural mechanics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Jay Bruns is senior climate policy advisor to Washington Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler. Bruns was previously a senior advisor for private sector engagement at the United Nations Environment Program. Before that, he was vice president at The Hartford, where he led the company’s environmental stewardship efforts. Earlier, he was a career American diplomat, rising to the Senior Foreign Service. He represented the US in Norway, Germany, Japan, Trinidad and Tobago and Canada, and held positions in the State Department, Office of U.S. Trade Representative and the National Security Council at the White House.

Mark Way is Zurich North America’s head of sustainability underwriting, who leads Zurich’s newly formed Office of Sustainability Underwriting. Way has 20 years of insurance industry experience and a distinct focus on sustainability for the past 15 years. His most recent position was with The Nature Conservancy in Virginia, where he served as both acting global climate adaptation director and global climate risk & resilience director. Prior to that, he was with Swiss Re.
