Let me guess, taxpayers need to shell out billions in infrastructure improvements so we can replace 3,500,000 professional truck drivers with robots that don’t draw a paycheck or patronize the businesses that line our roadways.

Cars will be done first and then some time after that it will be trucks, and very probably not all trucks. But even so, you need to look at the big picture. Economies move, they are dynamic. Look how many buggy whip manufacturing jobs were lost due to the advent of the car. Was that bad? What about all the farm jobs lost because of the invention of modern farm machinery. Was that bad? Look at all the bank teller jobs which were lost because of the ATM and internet banking. Should we turn our back on that? And watch as the fast food industry loses thousands and thousands of jobs thanks to the $15 minimum wage, electronic order takers and automatic cookers. Will that be bad? Always need to be looking for newer opportunities. A trucker in his 50’s+ today is probably fine. A trucker in his 20’s or 30’s should be thinking about another career and has the time to do so. BTW, the same lane lines a self driving car can’t see, I can’t see either. If we need infrastructure improvement, we need infrastructure improvement. And guess what? More infrastructure jobs.

Dave, didn’t that wonderful billion dollar Stimulus earmark infrastructure improvements like what was promised by our esteemed leader? What happened to all those shovel ready jobs? What happened to the Department of Transportation money supposed to be used to maintain roads and bridges? Oops! Spent it somewhere else.

Agent, as we all know the multi-billion dollar stimulus plan was a pork infested deal meant to garner votes and “create” a number of BS jobs. You’re right, the DOT needs to distribute limited funds wisely, an ability few in government poses.

Dave, more cheerful news on Townhall.com today about the wonderful Obama economy. First quarter GDP was .5%. For those who have trouble reading that, it is half of one percent growth. This is coming on the heels of 1.4% growth in the last quarter of 2015. In the whole reign of Obama, he has yet to have a 3% growth rate for any year. Watch the libs blame Republicans for this again. That Progressive Socialism economics mixed in with Keynsian spending increasing the debt to $20 Trillion has really been wildly successful, hasn’t it?

@Agent: Obama’s legacy will be as the only POTUS without a single year of GDP growth of at least 3%.

Oops! I didn’t read you post above before replying to Dave, wherein you already said what I said.

Obama will simply blame Republicans for the GDP failure. But he had ‘a phone and a pen’ to circumvent them…. so, how was he foiled by them?

Great. Next thing we need is a robot lawyer.

not likely, the robot lawyers might find it logical to eliminate lawyers. so lawyers lobby will stop that from ever happening.

I have a feeling that a consumer would have a hard time arguing with a robot adjustor about a settlement.

Lots of questions. If the car can’t see faded lane markings, what will it do on snow covered roads? Will it be able to dodge that nasty pothole that can flatten a tire?

Haven’t you heard Ernie? We won’t have any more snow covered roads due to Global Warming. We will all be frying in the next few years and the polar caps will all be gone and everyone living on the coasts will be drowning.

Ernie – the cars will use a variety of sensors, including LiDar.

“Ford is testing its autonomous cars in a fake city in snowing Michigan. Video shows how they ‘see’ road markings and above-ground landmarks. System uses a combination of LiDar and specially-created 3D maps. It comes shortly after Google admitted its cars must pull over in storms”

I got a downvote for directly answering a question, providing a link to support my response and not insulting anyone? The voting on this site is a joke.
