A.J. Gallagher; Herbruck, Alder; Behnke & Co.; Premier Risk Services

Illinois-based global insurance broker Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. reported the acquisitions of Herbruck, Alder & Co., an employee benefit brokerage located in Cleveland, Ohio; Behnke & Co. Inc., a retail insurance broker headquartered in Decatur, Ill.; and Premier Risk Services Inc. in Itasca, Ill.

Founded in 1962, Herbruck, Alder & Co. specializes in group benefits, retirement planning, HR consulting and executive benefits for Midwest clients. Mark Alder and his associates will continue to operate at their current location under the direction of William Ziebell, who is North Central executive vice president of GallagherÕs employee benefit consulting and brokerage operations.

Established in 1983, Behnke & Co. provides commercial property/casualty, employee benefits and risk management consulting services to clients throughout the United States. The firm specializes in insurance coverage for the agricultural processing, medical malpractice, construction, entertainment, hospitality, public entity, transportation and manufacturing industries.

Christopher Behnke and his associates will continue to operate from their current locations under the direction of Thomas J. Gallagher, Midwest regional manager of Gallagher’s retail property/casualty brokerage operation.

Formed in 1986, Premier Risk Services is a retail insurance broker providing commercial property/casualty and employee benefits insurance and consulting services to their clients in the Midwest. The firm specializes in insurance coverage for the real estate, construction and manufacturing industries.

Dino Gavanes and his associates will continue to operate in their Itasca location under the direction of Thomas J. Gallagher.

Burns & Wilcox, NorthCoast E&S

Independent wholesale broker and underwriting manager Burns & Wilcox, based in Farmington Hills, Mich., has acquired NorthCoast Excess & Surplus Agency — a wholesale brokerage and underwriting manager based in Cleveland, Ohio.

Jeff Burke, president of NorthCoast Excess & Surplus Agency, joined Burns & Wilcox of Cleveland as a senior producer effective Nov. 17. NorthCoast Excess & Surplus Agency brokers and underwrites a variety of specialty property and casualty risks.

Brown & Brown, Mavum Consulting, Mavum Risk Management

National insurance broker Brown & Brown has acquired the assets of Mavum Consulting LLC and Mavum Risk Management LLC of Indianapolis, Ind.

With annualized revenues of approximately $1.3 million, Mavum Consulting and Mavum Risk Management provide insurance products and services to businesses and individuals throughout the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area. Mavum Consulting and Mavum Risk Management’s employees will relocate to Brown & Brown of Indiana’s existing Indianapolis office, under the leadership of Fred McClaine.

Rod Reasen, the founder and owner of the Mavum companies, will assist in the transition of the operations to Brown & Brown.

Breckenridge Insurance Services, International Placement Services

Ohio-based wholesale insurance broker and program administrator Breckenridge Insurance Services has acquired the assets of International Placement Services LC (IPSICO), a wholesale insurance brokerage firm in St. Louis. The deal is the fourth for Breckenridge, which has been in operation for only a year and has plans for more.

IPSICO was founded in 1981 by Richard J. Eichhorn. IPSICO offers primary and excess casualty coverage, executive liability and workers compensation products. It also offers inland marine coverage, commercial auto and other related casualty products. Its property coverage includes earthquake, wind and flood coverage. IPSICOÕs industry specialties include a construction unit and a large public entity portfolio.

IPSICO also offers alternative risk services that will become a part of Breckenridge Enterprise Alternative Risk Services. IPSICO also owns a premium financing company. IPSICO operations will continue to be based in St. Louis.
