This article may have been written in 2014 but the information is antique. Hospitalists have been the norm in every major metropolitan area for at least two decades, and most patients are very familiar with the idea. Further, the primary doctor relationship is not becoming diluted; it has been non-existent for decades and under the new Medical Home model encouraged by the ACA it is actually enhanced. Patient care is still fragmented between a team of specialists–as it has been for the last 30 years — but those specialists are functioning together as a part of a cohesive “team” under a single medical home. Good lord, where have you people been?
