STATE FARM SAFETY PATROL WATCHING FLA. TURNPIKE:

January 24, 2005

The Road Rangers, roadside helpers patrolling Florida’s Turnpike has doubled its vehicles, picked up a sponsor and a new name. State Farm Insurance pledged $850,000 over two years to sponsor what has been renamed the State Farm Safety Patrol. This group of 14 trucks and drivers patrols the Turnpike to provide free assistance to motorists. Chris Neal, a State Fram spokesman, said the patrol will help prevent secondary accidents, that occur when motorists are distracted or backed up by a previous accident–and that translates into fewer claims. Patrol members take first aid training, help with flat tires, direct traffic away from disabled vehicles, provide gasoline to stranded motorists and make basic repairs.
