San Francisco-based Wells Fargo & Co. announced its management team for the combined insurance businesses of Wells Fargo and Wachovia Corp. Reporting to Dave Zuercher, group head of International and Insurance Services, are Neal Aton, head of Wells Fargo Insurance Inc.; Randy Tronnes, head of Rural Community Insurance Services; Bruce Basso, vice chair of Wells Fargo Insurance Services Inc.; Fred de Grosz, vice chair of Wells Fargo Insurance Services Inc.; and John Cay, chairman of Wachovia Insurance Services Inc. Zuercher continues in his role as chairman of each insurance entity, and as head of Wells Fargo Insurance Services Inc.
Reporting to Zuercher from Wells Fargo Insurance Services are Anne Doss, head of sales strategy and partnerships; Scott Isaacson, chief marketing officer; Deb Broderick, operating officer; Andy Paterno, head of the company’s third-party administration businesses and head of the new brokerage delivery team; Kevin Kenny, head of the brokerage’s Eastern Area; H. David Wood, head of the brokerage’s Western Area; and Dan Goldapp, head of mergers and acquisitions.
Zurich North America appointed Julie Dunai head of its environmental unit, which addresses professional liability and environmental risk.
Dunai brings more than 19 years of insurance industry experience to her new position. She joined Zurich in 1997 and has worked in senior roles, including head of proposition development for Commercial Markets. She has managed several key projects, including driving the Commercial Markets’ international product and growth initiative for a business unit spanning industry segments, including Middle Markets, Environmental, Energy, Construction, and Zurich North America Commercial’s Canada practice.
Prior to joining Zurich, Dunai held positions as an environmental liability underwriter and sales executive for a wholesale insurance broker. Prior to entering the insurance industry, Dunai was a soil scientist working on USDA soil mapping, conservation projects and urban development. She holds a degree in geology and soil science.
The company also named Ty R. Sagalow executive vice president and chief innovation officer in the North America Commercial Marketing unit. Sagalow will oversee all of North America Commercial’s strategic product development initiatives in the United States and Canada, and will have responsibility for the business division’s Proposition Development and Marketing Research departments. Sagalow will be based in New York.
Sagalow brings more than 25 years of property/casualty industry experience to Zurich, most recently serving as president of AIG Product Development in New York.
Zurich Financial Services Group Inc. named Rich Merski head of federal affairs in the United States.
Merski most recently managed Washington government affairs activities for American International Group Inc. Merski will be based in Washington D.C., handling federal legislative and political affairs for Zurich and its U.S. Farmers business.
Dallas-based insurance brokerage Apex Global Partners (AGP) appointed Jay Beck managing director of business development for its Benefits and Consulting Division and senior vice president of the corporation.
Beck has 20 years of experience in sales and operations, and financial management. Prior to joining AGP, Beck was president and CEO of Century Healthcare.
Marsh named David L. Eslick chairman of Marsh & McLennan Agency, a new agency for small and emerging growth U.S. companies. He will work with Jack Butcher, who is president and CEO of the new agency.
Eslick, who has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, most recently was chairman, president and CEO of USI Holdings. He joined USI in San Francisco in 1997, serving as a senior vice president of sales. He became president and chief operating officer in 1999, and chairman, president and CEO in 2002. He began his insurance career with Ohio National Life in 1979, and held positions with Prudential Insurance and Acordia (now Wells Fargo Insurance) before joining USI.
Joe Peloso joined Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), a division of Liberty Mutual Group, as a vice president charged with expanding company’s casualty-driven program business. As vice president of liability programs based in New York, Peloso will oversee all U.S. non-professional liability program operations.
Peloso has 25 years of program business experience with both insurers and reinsurers, including work in the general agent market segment.
Richmond, Virginia-based Markel Corp. promoted Britt Glisson to chief administrative officer. In this role, he will be responsible for assuring efficient, cost effective operations for Markel Corp. in North America. Glisson joined Markel in 1990, first as chief financial officer and later as president and chief operating officer of Essex Insurance Co. In 1996, he became president and chief operating officer of Markel Insurance Co., the positions he held just prior to his promotion.
Markel also named Mike Crowley president of Markel Corp.’s Specialty Division. In his new position, Crowley will be responsible for specialty insurance business, which includes Markel Insurance Co. and Markel American Insurance Co.
Prior to joining Markel, Crowley was president of Willis HRH North America, and he has previously held senior positions with Johnson & Higgins and Palmer Cay.
