Hastings Mutual Insurance Co., a property/casualty insurance carrier based in Hastings, Mich., appointed Renee Beauford as the company’s new vice president of claims.

Specializing in claims management, Beauford brings more than 20 years of insurance industry experience to the Hastings Mutual executive team.

Beauford joined Hastings Mutual in 2007 and previously served as the claims field director. Her claims experience is broad and includes expertise in litigation, claims adjusting, reserve setting and strategic leadership.

Prior to working for Hastings Mutual, Beauford worked for Hartford Insurance Group and Zurich Insurance in Indianapolis, Ind. Beauford has obtained an Associate in Claims and a Senior Claim Law Associate designation.

Founded in 1885, Hastings Mutual operates in six the Midwestern states of Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Monitor Liability Managers LLC in Rolling Meadows, Ill., has added Daniel Flick as chief actuary.

Flick is responsible for overseeing the pricing and reserving functions, working with senior leaders to set strategy, collaborating with all functional areas to ensure overall profitability, segmenting books to determine improved profit potential and evaluating impact of economic conditions on profitability.

He has 20 years of experience in the insurance industry and formerly served as senior vice president and actuary at CNA Financial.

Marsh & McLennan Cos. CEO Brian Duperreault has been named chairman of the Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance (FACI). His appointment was confirmed by Federal Insurance Office (FIO) Director Michael McRaith.

FACI was formed by the U.S. Department of Treasury to provide advice to the FIO, which was created under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. FIO monitors all aspects of the insurance industry and advises the Secretary of the Treasury on major domestic and prudential international insurance policy issues.

State Automobile Mutual and State Auto Property & Casualty Insurance Cos. have named a number of associates officers of the companies.

Scott Jones, vice president, chief investment officer, started with State Auto in 1989 and previously served as a portfolio manager and senior financial accountant with State Auto.

Karen Longshore, vice president, chief technology officer, joined State Auto earlier this year to drive alignment of the company’s technology vision with overall business strategy. Longshore previously held senior level IT positions with BP Solar in Frederick, Md., and Crump Group.

Charlie McShane, vice president of business insurance, joined State Auto in 2006 to build the company’s middle market presence. He was named regional president of State Auto’s Eastern Region in 2009. Prior to joining State Auto, McShane had extensive insurance experience with Zurich, St Paul, USF&G and Aetna Life and Casualty. He holds both the Associate in Risk Management and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designations.

The following individuals also have been named officers at State Auto: Kevin Kelly, regional president, Midwestern region; Steven Moehl, regional financial officer, Central region; Chris Steer, regional financial officer, Eastern region; Alita A. Burke, assistant vice president, dean, State Auto University; Mark Roso, assistant vice president, business insurance; Nathan W. Santamaria, assistant vice president, product manager II; Clay Jenkins, assistant secretary – actuarial program management director, personal lines; and David DeLong, sales operations officer.
