Columbia, S.C.-native Mark Askins, has joined Iroquois South as a regional manager for South Carolina and western North Carolina.

Askins spent more than 20 years with The Hartford, most recently as their Richmond, Va., branch manager. Askins began his career with The Hartford in Columbia, S.C., and he held auditing, underwriting, and management positions in their Charlotte office. He graduated from Clemson University.

In addition to servicing existing member agencies in the Carolinas and enrolling new ones, Askins will lead a special initiative to further develop Iroquois’ capabilities for middle market accounts.

Iroquois South is part of The Iroquois Group, a network of independent agencies with more than 2,200 members in 41 states.

Hub International Limited, a global insurance brokerage, has named Michael S. Chapman, currently chief executive officer of Hub International Southeast, as president of Hub’s newly formed US South region, which will include states Virginia through Louisiana, and existing Hub’s Carolinas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and Gulf South operations. He will continue to report to Marc Cohen, recently appointed president of Hub International.

During his tenure as CEO of Hub Southeast since 2013, Chapman has led the Southeast region, with offices throughout the Carolinas and Florida, to more than triple in size through a combination of M&A and organic growth.

An employee of Hub since 2000, he previously served as the chief sales officer of Hub International New England, based in Wilmington, Mass.

Prior to Hub, he held several management positions at various insurance companies, entering the industry in 1986. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, he holds Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI), and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designations.

Cohen said through this newly formed role, Chapman will continue to build out Hub’s presence in the Southern US territory.

Headquartered in Chicago, Hub International Limited provides property and casualty, life and health, employee benefits, investment and risk management products and services through offices located in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Fortegra, a specialty insurer based in Jacksonville, Fla., and a subsidiary of Tiptree Financial Inc., has appointed Mark Rattner as executive vice president, chief underwriter, and head of product management.

In this capacity, Mark will be responsible for expanding the scope of programs underwritten through Fortegra’s agent distribution network.

Rattner brings 30 years of experience to Fortegra’s specialty programs underwriting division.

He previously served as senior vice president of Houston International Insurance Group.

Fortegra President and CEO Richard Kahlbaugh said Rattner’s experience will accelerate development of the company’s underwriting and risk selection models.

Fortegra Financial Corporation and its subsidiaries comprise a single-source insurance services provider that offers consumer protection options including warranty solutions, credit insurance, and specialty underwriting programs.

MarketScout has expanded its specialty high net worth practice in Tampa, Fla., with the addition of Craig Rice as a production broker for the Private Client Solutions division.

In his role with MarketScout, Rice will focus on leading the growth initiatives for both admitted and non-admitted high net worth business in Tampa and the Florida panhandle.

Prior to joining MarketScout, Rice was a private risk advisor for Baldwin, Krystyn Sherman Partners, where he specialized in providing insurance for professional athletes, entertainers, wealthy families and individuals, and companies.

Rice holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

According to Richard Kerr, CEO of MarketScout, the company plans to expand the Tampa office with underwriters who can offer fast turnaround for agency partners.

MarketScout is an insurance distribution and underwriting company headquartered in Dallas with specialty expertise in many areas.

The firm is a Lloyd’s Coverholder and MGA for U.S. insurers. MarketScout owns and operates the MarketScout Exchange and over 40 online and traditional underwriting and distribution venues.

MarketScout is founder of the Council for Insuring Private Clients (CIPC) and the Entrepreneurial Insurance Alliance (EIA).
