Gary T. Kendellen, Regional Director of the Newark, New Jersey Region of the National Labor Relations Board, has approved the final arrangements on procedures for conducting a union representation election among over 2,000 sales agents of Newark-based Prudential Insurance Company.
The NLRB announcement indicated that, “The election is based on a petition filed on January 30, 2002 by Office and Professional Employees International Union, Local 153. The sales agents will vote on whether they wish to have Local 153 represent them in collective bargaining negotiations with Prudential. The agents work from 74 Prudential offices in 39 states and the District of Columbia.
“Because of the numerous and widespread locations at which the sales agents are employed, the parties have agreed that the election will be conducted using the NLRB’s mail ballot procedures,” said the announcement. “The ballots will be mailed from the Newark Regional Office to the sales agents’ homes on Friday, April 5. The agents will have three weeks, until 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, to receive their ballots and return them to the Newark Regional Office. The ballots will be counted on Monday, April 29 at the NLRB’s Newark Office with the parties in attendance. Results will be announced upon completion of the tallying of ballots.”
