The Injured Workers’ Insurance Fund (IWIF) announced the creation of a new division, Lighthouse Risk Solutions. The risk management division will focus on the growing risk management needs of medium to large companies based in Maryland.
IWIF, a Maryland workers’ compensation carrier, created Lighthouse Risk Solutions to extend its capabilities to companies that are self-insured or those who want to make a positive impact on their loss profile.
Vice President of Lighthouse Risk Solutions, R. Donald McDaniel, Jr., an insurance and healthcare business veteran, will head up the division and lead it into the risk-management marketplace.
At the end of September 2003, Lighthouse received official approval from the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission to operate as a service provider for self-insureds in the State of Maryland.
“This is a really wonderful opportunity to leverage the breadth and depth of capabilities that IWIF offers to help businesses eliminate or significantly reduce unnecessary exposures, which will lead to better physical health of employees and fiscal health of the employers. Our mission is to help our clients develop robust risk management cultures within their organizations,” explained McDaniel.
Lighthouse is developing strategic alliances with Maryland’s independent agents, and McDaniel noted “IWIF has developed a strong partnership with independent agents over the last several years, and we are hopeful these relationships will continue with Lighthouse. We want to be viewed as the risk management and self-insurance partner of choice in our community, just as IWIF has developed a reputation as the workers’ compensation insurance provider of choice.”
