ACE USA Makes Appointments in New York, Philly Offices

ACE USA, the U.S.-based retail operating division of The ACE Group of Companies, announced two appointments in its ACE Casualty Risk Unit. William Hazelton joins ACE USA as senior vice president and underwriting manager for ACE Environmental Risk and Mitchell Schmidt has assumed the role of senior vice president and underwriting manager for the Custom Casualty Unit.

ACE Casualty Risk, a division of ACE USA, specializes in lead umbrella and excess liability, custom casualty, environmental liability and public entity-oriented insurance products. ACE Casualty Risk products are distributed through the retail brokerage community to the commercial market.

Based in New York City, Hazelton will have overall responsibility for overseeing all retail-focused environmental business, new business development and underwriting activities for ACE Environmental Risk in the United States. With more than 15 years of underwriting and claims experience in the environmental insurance market, Hazelton most recently served as vice president and director of Field Operations for Quanta’s Environmental Liability unit, based in its New York office.

He previously held a variety of leadership positions in the environmental underwriting and claims arena, including Chubb Environmental Solutions and AIG Environmental.

Based in Philadelphia, Schmidt joined ACE USA in July 2003 as Midwest Regional excess casualty manager. He has held numerous senior leadership roles within ACE Casualty Risk, most recently serving as Western Zone manager, with responsibility for the Excess Liability and Custom Casualty product offerings for five of the nine ACE USA regions.

Prior to his tenure at ACE USA, Schmidt held several branch and regional underwriting and marketing positions in the casualty arena with Chubb & Son Inc.
