Harleysville Worcester Insurance Co. in Worcester, Mass. has requested the approval of the Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance to transfer corporate domicile to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Harleysville Worcester is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Harleysville Group Inc., which, in turn, is a subsidiary of Harleysville Mutual Insurance Co.
Commissioner Julianne Bowler has scheduled an informational hearing for December 11, 2006 to consider the request. By statute, the commissioner must approve any such proposed transfer of domicile unless she determines it is not in the interest of the policyholders of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Harleysville network is represented by about 2,000 employees and some 1,500 agencies in 32 states, and provides a variety of insurance-related products and services, including property, casualty and life insurance.
Harleysville had consolidated assets of $3.7 billion and net written premiums of $1.2 billion in 2005.
