Martin A. Schwartzman has been named first deputy superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department, making him second in command of the department.
In February, he was named deputy superintendent for strategic planning and market initiatives. Prior to that, he was assistant deputy superintendent and chief of the Life bureau.
Before that assignment, he served as director of policy initiatives, assistant chief examiner of the department’s property bureau and supervising examiner with the health bureau. Schwartzman joined the department in 1980.
