Having a ROPS on a tractor really is a no brainer. They are (I believe) mandated on bulldozers and those types of heavy equipment, why not a tractor? It could have saved this man’s life and his family their grief.
The investment is minimal when amortized over the life of the tractor so cost isn’t a legitimate issue or excuse not to purchase one. While I feel badly for his family, I have no sympathy for an experienced farmer who was apparently too cocky, lazy, or cheap to install one.
It is called ‘Personal Responsibility’. If you want it, install it and with a rebate program funded by donation and administered through the state, it makes sense to take advantage of the more affordable cost.
Government mandate is not necessary and the increased cost it would add if mandated would slow new unit sales.
