The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) named John Murphy as its state affairs manager for the Northeast region.
Murphy will represent NAMIC members in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont on legislative matters. He will be based in NAMIC’s Boston office.
He replaces Paul Tetrault, who now serves as NAMIC’s state and policy affairs counsel.
Murphy is an experienced insurance government affairs professional who comes to NAMIC from Hanover Insurance Company, where he served as vice president and counsel. He previously spent six years at the American Insurance Association as regional vice president. While at AIA, Murphy managed the association’s government affairs activity in nine states. Prior to this, he spent 15 years at Liberty Mutual.
NAMIC said Murphy has a well-established reputation in insurance circles and has intimate knowledge of the business and political climates throughout the Northeast.
NAMIC’s 1,400 members serve more than 135 million auto, home, and business policyholders, writing more than $196 billion in annual premiums. Its member companies have 50 percent of the automobile/homeowners market and 31 percent of the business insurance market. More than 200,000 people are employed by NAMIC member companies.
