GMI in Pennsylvania Launches Norman Specialty Insurance Group

November 29, 2012

GMI Insurance — a Valley Forge, Penn.-based managing general agent for transportation insurance nationwide — announced the launch of Norman Specialty Insurance Group, a wholesale brokerage unit for specialty lines insurance products and services.

Named after GMI founder Norman A. Trudel, Norman Specialty will be complimenting the existing program auto business with wholesale appointments to write trucking, emergency transportation, new auto ventures, small tow truck operators and used car dealers.

Well-grounded in the commercial transportation industry, Norman Specialty will also provide additional lines for existing agents such as workers’ compensation and umbrella coverage. The new specialty operation has already established relationships with 10 A-rated carrier groups.

“As the daughter of Norman Trudel, I am proud to head up Norman Specialty,” said Karen Trudel, chief operating officer of Norman Specialty. “It’s a natural extension of our seasoned GMI operation to compliment our core program auto business.” COO Trudel said her goal is to capitalize on GMI Insurance’s strong auto heritage, experienced staff and extensive network of industry contacts to put Norman Specialty on the map by mid-2013.

GMI Insurance also announced Dawn Argue has joined Norman Specialty as managing director. Argue began her career in 1996 with Allstate Insurance Co. where she specialized in personal lines sales. Following Allstate, she worked in claims management, underwriting and customer relations for several Philadelphia area brokerages and a managing general agency prior to joining Norman Specialty.

Norman Specialty will operate in the GMI Insurance company offices in Valley Forge. The company recently launched a new website at www.normanspecialty.com.
