Grants, state and federal aid are still handouts. Perhaps they should not have relied on handouts to cover their claims and bought insurance instead. If you are going to rely on welfare to save you, prepare to get frustrated while you wait in the breadline.

Norkik: How much do you know about purchaing flood insurance? You can only buy a limited amount of coverage through NFIP. And until recently, that was the only game in town. Many people may have purchased flood insurance, but couldn’t buy enough. Or the policy excluded coverage. It’s very narrow in the scope of what it will pay, expecially if you are pre-Firm, below grade, or have a basement.

If insurance is not available or is very costly for a particular property, that should give a clue that it’s in a very risky location and you SHOULD NOT LIVE THERE or you should be able to AFFORD to live there without taxpayer subsidies and handouts.

If someone chooses to live within sight of the ocean, that’s their right, but don’t ask me to think of them as a “victim” when the ocean washes their house away.

People can choose to self-insure a high-risk property if they want to take the risk. That’s perfectly fine. However, people who choose to self-insure and then cry “victim” when they lose their bet with mother nature are just greedy jerks who don’t mind stealing from others to pay for their losses.

Boo hoo if they have to wait months or years for the money they didn’t earn and don’t deserve in the first place.

Breadline? Welfare? Handouts? Let me tell you something, My Husband and I have worked for 40 years before retiring. My husband has worked for the federal government and I have worked in the medical field. We have paid our taxes all of our working lives. We have PAID for both Flood and Home owners insurance for years. The Flood Insurance depreciated the amount of damage by 30% not to mention the $2000.00 deductible. There is a lot they don’t cover, for instance. In their minds, they think when the berms broke the water calmly flooded the area. That’s not the case at all. It was waves on top of waves that flood the town. The water settled 1 inch below my floor line. They didn’t take into consideration the waves and that I had 2 feet of water in my home before it settled. Therefore, they refused to pay for damages that occurred. I have appealed 3 times. I called an attorney and they want 20% of the claim as payment. Lets not forget the 30% depreciation? By the time all is said and done, we wouldn’t have enough money to fix our home. Yes I did apply for the RREM grant. (MY FERERAL DOLLARS) . NOT WELFARE, NOR HANDOUTS!! I wish you well and hope that you never have a catastrophe happened to you or your family!! Before you start spewing out words of stupidity, think about it first!!!
