Members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation have raised concerns about delays in helping homeowners recover from Superstorm Sandy.
The lawmakers met with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan in Washington on May 8. They say Donovan has made a “bedrock commitment” that New Jersey will get the money it deserves.
Republican Congressman Chris Smith, who is the senior member of the state’s congressional delegation, says he told Donovan approximately 6,300 applicants in New Jersey remain on a waitlist for HUD money.
Smith says Donovan said the third wave of funds from Washington could begin moving in the next several weeks.
