N.H. to Map Hazardous Sites Most at Risk During Natural Disasters

June 16, 2014

New Hampshire is launching a new effort to inventory hazardous sites most at risk during natural disasters.

New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan said on June 13 the effort will help the state target resources to reduce damage. She said developing a statewide master plan will ensure efforts are effective and cost-efficient. Hassan said many of the same locations are hit repeatedly by storms, causing expensive repairs.

Homeland Security and Emergency Management will be in charge of the project being funded by a federal regional catastrophic planning grant.

Once the sites are mapped, the state will work with communities to set priorities for mitigation.
